The Phlogiston is a multicoloured gas-like substance, solar systems are enclosed in colossally huge crystal spheres, which float in, and keep out, the highly inflammable Phlogiston.
Often called "The Flow" or "The Spookhouse", the Phlogiston is a very eerie place to travel beween the worlds, but extremely fast if you know the right currents.
Taken me years to get a version of the Phlogiston I liked!!
the ships are "Nautiloids", battleships favoured by the dreaded mind flayers.
